Four years ago I looked up to many of our mechanics. Now I am one of those mechanics myself.
My path
During my VMBO education at the Fioretti College in Veghel, I was interested in Automotive Engineering. In my fourth year of VMBO, I did an one day a week internship at the BAS Service Branch in Veghel. I chose BAS because I had heard good stories about BAS through an acquaintance. This acquaintance then also put in a good word for me and arranged an interview. I could assist the mechanics each Wednesday with their tinkering. It soon became clear to me that I wanted to continue learning about truck technology and step away from passenger cars. In addition to my internship, the BAS branch manager gave me the opportunity to work each Tuesday evening. Great! This way I was able to hone my skills an extra day each week and earn some money on the side!
After completing my VMBO training, I started training as a commercial vehicle technician at the Truck Academy in Helmond. I first examined several truck engineering courses and felt best about the Truck Academy in Helmond. By then, it was already a done deal that I’d do my internship at BAS. During my first year I went to school four days a week and worked one day a week at BAS. The day I worked I was able to apply my knowledge of truck technology in practice. During the second semester fo my first year I turned things around and worked four days and went to school one day a week. In my second and third year this stayed that way and I was able to learn more and more about truck technology. I really liked that I already earned a decent salary for my age. And I now recently graduated! Of course, I decided to stay with BAS in my trusted team. Now no longer as an apprentice, but full-time as a mechanic.

This motivates me..
I just love being able to solve a vehicle’s problem. It really gives a kick when you can get a vehicle on the road again and solve a malfunction or another problem with your own hands.
Proud of..
I am proud that four years ago I would have never thought I’d be where I am now. I looked up to many of our mechanics. Now I am one of those mechanics myself. The development I went through makes me very proud!
